The Second Galactic War rages on in Helldivers 2, with more than 8.6 billion Helldivers giving their lives last year. Of that number, 177 million were from friendly fire.
That's just one of the staggering statistics revealed by developer Arrowhead Studios in a new infographic charting enemy casualties, friendly-fire incidents, most popular stratagems, and more data from the game's second year.
While billions of Helldivers died defending democracy, it was much worse for Super Earth's foes. According to Arrowhead, Helldivers 2 players killed nearly 280 billion enemies across the game's three factions. The bug-like Terminids made up the majority of those, with 121 billion of the bugs slain over the course of the last year. In return, the Terminids claimed 2.8 billion Helldivers.
Arrowhead's infographic also gives players some insight into the game's most popular (and lethal) stratagems. The top three most used stratagems--Reinforce, Eagle 500KG Bomb, and Resupply--aren't all that surprising. Reinforce is used to bring back slain teammates, and Resupply is essentially used on cooldown to keep Helldivers geared with stims and ammo to continue dishing out death for Super Earth.
Other popular stratagems include almost every type of sentry turret (also no surprise there), as well as Eagle Airstrike and Eagle Strafing Run. The Eagle Strafing Run also appears on the list for another, less prestigious reason--as the worst friendly-fire offender.
According to Arrowhead, Eagle Strafing Run is responsible for 34 million of the 177 million friendly-fire incidents of last year. Next up is the Portable Hellbomb with 23 million. To no Helldiver's surprise, stratagems like the K-9 and Guard Dog also have their fair share of oopsies to their name, with the K-9 claiming 21 million friendly lives and the Guard Dog taking another 9.3 million. Anti-personal Minefield rounds out the top-5 friendly-fire stratagems with 6.8 million deaths to its name.
It's all a fascinating dive into player habits and the sheer scale of Helldivers 2's ongoing and ever-changing war. Most recently, Helldivers lost the battle for the Automaton homeworld of Cyberstan, forced to fall back after the loss of too many reinforcements. Since much of the invasion of Cyberstan took place after Helldivers 2's two-year anniversary, it seems players may have to wait another year to learn the impact the battle had on casualties, friendly-fire incidents, and popular stratagems.
In other Helldivers 2 news, an official Helldivers movie starring Jason Momoa is set to release in 2027.
