The En Passant Triumph has appeared in Destiny 2, and to obtain it you'll need to find and complete an easily missed chess puzzle. For this new puzzle to appear, you'll need to have collected the 60 chess pieces hidden around the Destiny 2 universe for the Ambition and Resolve Pieces achievement. How To Find And Start The Chess Puzzle

The En Passant Triumph has six steps, the first of which is to complete five chess puzzles in the Unknown Space. To start with, you'll need to find the puzzle. Navigate to Eris Morn's Flat from the HELM and go through the green portal to her Throne World. Then, head to the northwest edge of the platform and drop down. This hidden room has a chess board in the center of it, and as you move closer you'll see the prompt reading 'Pick up the King?' Interacting with this prompt loads you into the Unknown Antechamber. After finding it for the first time, you can immediately return to the area from a new navigation option in the Last City.

Inside the Unknown Antechamber you'll find yourself faced with a large chessboard. You'll need to move the chess pieces to specific positions and interact with different plates to add, remove, or change pieces on the board. You begin each puzzle with a limited number of actions allowed, and you can check those actions in the on-screen message that appears when you stand on a plate. Each plate has a label, marked by a glowing green symbol, and different function as follows:

  • Piece-specific plates - There's one of these for each chess piece--rook, bishop, pawn, knight, queen. Stand on the plate and shoot the tile you want the piece to be added or moved to.
  • Delete- Stand on this plate on the left and shoot a tile to remove the chess piece that stands on it.
  • Convert - This switch converts the chess piece of the tile you shoot.
  • Undo - Undoes your last move.
  • Start Over - Resets the board.

All Destiny 2 Chess Puzzle Solutions

There are multiple puzzles that take place on the board, but flow into one another and increase in difficulty the further along you get. In true Bungie fashion, you're given no information on how to solve the puzzle, the mechanics, or the solutions. You are permitted a total of 60 moves to complete the puzzle altogether.

The most important thing to note is that this isn't just any normal chess game, this is a Destiny 2 chess game, so all is not as straightforward as it should be. Note that our instructions are formatted with the plate to stand on first, and the tile to shoot second. While there are multiple combinations to progress this section of the puzzle, known in-game as Middle Game, here are some that trigger the progression of the En Passant Triumph and unlock the next part:

Destiny 2 Chess Puzzle Frequencies Solutions

After following the steps above, interact with the water bowl on the left and the board will shift and convert to a black, white, and red tiled board. This is known as the End Game. When you have completed the first Middle Game puzzle, you can navigate to the Lost City and select the End Game mode to automatically return to this stage and skip the above chess puzzle. You'll be given a frequency just before this happens, and some chess pieces will be filled in around the edges. If you wait a while and try again, your frequency and chess pieces will change. At the same time, the console you previously used to undo a move will show the message 'Offer Your Answer' which you can interact with. You can freely place any piece on the board now.

We're currently working out what the frequencies mean, and will update this guide as soon as we know more. The current working theory is that each player's chess board image and unique frequency should be stitched together like a large jigsaw, which will reveal a secret image. There are 4,096 pieces to place together, so bear with us while we gather the information and complete the jigsaw. With the Destiny 2 Edge of Fate reveal coming next week, could this all be tied in?
