Some of Marvel Rivals' most popular Strategist heroes are receiving damage-dealing buffs, as developer NetEase looks to make them a more formidable force on the battlefield in face of popular backline-destroying heroes like Spider-Man.
The balance update, which goes live today, will make Cloak & Dagger, Mantis, and Luna Snow all deal more damage. In the case of Cloak & Dagger and Mantis, it's in the form of a straight damage increase to their attacks, while in Luna Snow's case it's less damage falloff at a distance. While he isn't receiving a damage buff, Adam Warlock, another Strategist hero, is receiving a new effect. When he lands critical hits, the cooldown of his Avatar Life Stream healing ability will be reduced.
All of the buffs to the game's support heroes should make them more of a force to be reckoned with and make things more challenging for heroes like Black Panther, Spider-Man, Magik, and others who love to swoop in, terrorize the healers, and zip out.
While the Strategist changes are the bulk of the balance update, a few other heroes, particularly Vanguard heroes, have received some adjustments as well. The health of Groot's Ironwood Wall is down from 700 to 600, as is the health of Captain America, down from 650 to 600. Meanwhile, Doctor Strange, heavily nerfed in recent patches, has received a buff, with his ultimate ability Eye of Agamotto now charging faster.
The only changes to Duelist heroes are a nerf for Spider-Man and a buff for Winter Soldier. The hit-detection range on Spider-Man's Amazing Combo ability has been reduced, making it so players will need to be more precise. As for Winter Soldier, he's received a buff in the form of a second charge of their Tainted Voltage ability, as well as a new addition to his new Season 2 team-up ability with Captain America, Stars Aligned. Now when Bucky leaps to an ally, in addition to dealing damage to nearby enemies, it will also provide 50 bonus health to allies within range.
Alongside the balance changes, NetEase announced a new Hellfire Gala event where players can unlock a free Wolverine skin and vote to create a custom Gallery Card. Marvel Rivals is additionally adding new skin for Winter Soldier based on the character's look in the new Thunderbolts film, in theaters May 2.
While Marvel Rivals may have just added Emma Frost at the start of Season 2, it won't be long before another hero, Ultron, joins the roster as part of the game's mid-season update. Starting with Season 3, Marvel Rivals' seasons will become shorter, translating into a new hero joining the game's roster every month.
