It was a relatively safe bet that Marvel's Wolverine, the PlayStation 5-exclusive action game expected to launch this year, would make an appearance at this week's State of Play presentation, but developer Insomniac Games pumped the brakes on the hype.
Replying to an X post asking when more information for the game is coming, Insomniac tersely responded: "Spring 2026." February 12, the date of the next State of Play, is decidedly not in the spring, so unless Insomniac is straight-up lying, Logan might be a no-show this Thursday.
At the very least, Sony and Insomniac could show a glimpse of the bloody violence in Marvel's Wolverine while stopping short of sharing story or gameplay loop details and a release date. But should this be the case, it would be a frustrating affair for PlayStation fans who still know little about the upcoming game.
That hasn't stopped the rumor mill, though, with Marvel fans believing that Insomniac is teasing a Daredevil appearance in the game. We know for a fact that the title is set in the same continuity as Marvel's Spider-Man, so there are plenty of crossover opportunities.
Still, it would be nice to see what Wolverine's mission is and how his powers translate to gameplay. One can hope for a State of Play presentation solely devoted to the game.
With Marvel's Wolverine set for a late 2026 release window, it would not be surprising if Sony is somewhat apprehensive about launching the title near GTA 6--an anxiety that Microsoft reportedly shares with its marquee Xbox games this year. At least PlayStation owners have some other PS5 titles to look forward to this year, including Saros and Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls.
