New Details On Unreleased Breaking Bad VR Game Emerge

New information has come to light about projects from Sony's Firesprite studio that never materialized, including a Breaking Bad video game.

MP1st reported that Firesprite was working on a Breaking Bad VR game for PlayStation VR in 2017 and 2018. The game was said to be more akin to an "experience," similar to 2017's Stranger Things: The VR Experience.

According to the report, the Breaking Bad game would have taken players to famous places from the TV show, including Walter White's backyard with its pool where many notable story moments from the series took place. Another location would have been the New Mexico desert, where Walt and Jesse took part in many wicked deeds, including cooking meth and killing people.

It sounds like this could be the PlayStation VR game that Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan referenced in 2022. At the time, he said his writers came up with "three or four stories for different video games," one of which was a VR title for PlayStation VR. However, none of them ever materialized because Gilligan said he was unwilling to compromise on quality.

He also mentioned how "making a video game is damn hard," saying it's a lengthy and expensive process. The VR project in particular was challenging, he said, because this game was trying to "break new ground with VR," he said.

Breaking Bad was produced by Sony Pictures TV, so there would have been synergy between the TV show and PlayStation, which is owned by Sony.

MP1st also reported on an unannounced Firesprite game developed between 2018 and 2020 that was a new IP in the sci-fi horror genre. Art for the game found by MP1st gave off Dead Space vibes, but this game never materialized.

Another game from Firesprite that never came out was a rumored Twisted Metal battle royale game, which was apparently canceled.

Firesprite's latest game was 2023's PSVR game Horizon Call of the Mountain. The studio was assisting Cloud Imperium Games on the Theaters of War mode for the long-in-development space sim Star Citizen, but not anymore.
