Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition is making the jump to the Nintendo Switch 2. This new version upgrades the game's visuals and performance to take advantage of the Switch 2's more powerful hardware. You can expect higher resolution and framerates on Switch 2--along with all the extra story content and gameplay tweaks present in the Switch version of the game. While the Switch 2 digital version is available on the eShop for $65 (or as a $5 upgrade patch for those who already own the Switch version), physical copies of Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition - Switch 2 Edition are launching on April 16, 2026. Preorders for the physical release are available now for $65 at Amazon and Best Buy.
Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition - Switch 2 Edition includes is the full Switch game and Switch 2 upgrade patch on the cartridge. There are no preorder bonuses announced, but the upshot is you get the full game data on the card, unlike many other Switch 2 titles that require hefty downloads as a Game-Key Card.

If you already own the Nintendo Switch version, you can instead pay just $5 for the Upgrade Pack on the Nintendo eShop. But if you haven't picked this game up yet, you may be able to save some money. You can pick up the physical Switch version from Best Buy ($42), Walmart ($51.40), and GameStop ($40), all of which have the game for lower prices than its usual $60 MSRP. Then, just pay the $5 Upgrade Pack fee, and voila--you saved a few bucks on the Switch 2 version. As of writing this, physical ESRB versions of Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition for Switch are sold out at Amazon. But since the Switch isn't region-locked, you can instead pick up the PEGI version of the game at Amazon ($52.40), and it will work on your console.
Xenoblade Chronicles X originally launched on the Wii U in December of 2015 and is one of the console's best games. In March of 2025, the Nintendo Switch version offered a visually enhanced way to experience the massive JRPG, and playing on the go during long flights or train rides is the perfect way to kill some time. The Definitive Edition also comes with a host of new additions. You'll get access to a post-game story expansion, new playable characters and Skells, and an updated artstyle. It also features a few helpful quality-of-life improvements, including an increased level cap to 99 like previous titles, less restrictive character progression, faster and reblanced combat, and a new Follow Ball feature, which makes it easier to track mission objectives.
