PS5 System Update Out Now, Doesn't Do Much

The newest PlayStation 5 system update has arrived, but no one should expect any groundbreaking new features or major improvements.

Version 24.04-11.40.00 is out now, and the patch notes are a single line long: "We've improved the messages and usability on some screens." That's all there is. It's not much, but for anyone encountering issues with messages and usability on some screens may see those experiences improved now.

The PS5 gets these kind of smaller, more granular system updates from time to time. Others have focused on improving system stability.

In other PlayStation news, the next State of Play event is coming up today, June 4. The 40-minute event promises news and updates on "must-play games coming to PS5" from developers across the globe. Keep checking back with GameSpot for all the big news from the event as it's announced.

The newest GTA 6 trailer was captured on PS5, while The Witcher 4's stunning tech demo was captured on PS5 as well. This week also marks the 16th anniversary of when Rockstar announced a new PlayStation-exclusive game, Agent, that was never released.

The PS5 is currently on sale, with discounts bringing it down below the price of the Xbox Series X|S and Switch 2 during the week that Nintendo's new console launches.
