The Last Of Us Star Kaitlyn Dever Teases "Much Bigger Role" In Season 3

The Last of Us Season 3 will focus more on Abby's story, and now actor Kaitlyn Dever, who plays Abby, has discussed the upcoming season and how she's preparing for the starring role.

"I'm getting mentally and physically prepped right now. I go up in a couple days, actually, to start prep over there," Dever told Deadline recently. "I'm so excited to kind of take on a much bigger role in the season."

Without giving anything away, Season 2 ended in dramatic fashion, with the suggestion being that Season 3 would tell more of Abby's story after Seasons 1 and 2 focused on Ellie (Bella Ramsey).

Dever said she believes the fans are "really going to like it," referring to how Season 3 will shift perspective to Abby. Season 3 will add "more context onto her storyline," she said.

Dever also confirmed that Season 3 will go back in time to show what Abby was doing while other events with Ellie were transpiring. "So, I'm very excited for the fans to see it," she said.

While the focus of Season 3 may be on Abby, Ellie is coming back as well, as are numerous other characters.

Season 3 is expected to release on HBO in 2027. The new season will be the first without the direct involvement of The Last of Us game director Neil Druckmann, who quit the series alongside writer Halley Gross to focus on other projects, including Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet.

Season 3 will also lose Danny Ramirez, who played Manny in Season 2. Ramirez had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts; the role will be recast.

As for the game series, The Last of Us: Part III is rumored to be in the works at Naughty Dog, but this is not confirmed.
