Valve's second attempt at launching its Steam Machine is still set to happen in early 2026, according to AMD CEO Dr. Lisa Su.
In an AMD earnings call, Su specifically mentions support for Valve Steam Machine, which will make use of an AMD processor. "From a product standpoint, Valve is on track to begin shipping its AMD-powered steam machine early this year," Su states, stopping short of giving an exact timeframe.
Early 2026 does align with what Valve suggested during the announcement of the Steam Machine, but since then, the company hasn't provided any updates on availability or pricing. The PC hardware landscape has, however, drastically changed since, with RAM and storage pricing exponentially increasing and potentially having an impact on numerous hardware launches for the foreseeable future.
The Steam Machine was one of a trio of hardware announcements from Valve in late 2025, with the company also revealing a new Steam Controller and Steam Frame, its next-generation VR headset meant to finally replace the fantastic, but aging, Valve Index. It's the second time Valve has attempted to launch a Linux-powered gaming PC, although this time it is manufacturing the device itself.
In the same earnings call, Dr. Lisa Su also mentioned that AMD is ready to support Microsoft's launch of a next-generation Xbox in 2027, despite no formal announcement of the console yet. This stands in contrast to recent reporting suggesting Sony might only launch its own new console in 2028.
